<How to choose correct projector for my usage?>


* 4 Basic terms you need to know


1. Brightness (Unit: Ansi Lumens, commonly people use short form: AL or Ansi or Lumens)


  • Home Theatre: Generally 1600~2400Ansi Lumens is suitable for home use turning off light
  • Office and Educationally sector: Under normal ambient light, 2600Ansi Lumens above 
  • Small conference room: Recommend over 3500Ansi Lumens above
  • Medium ~ Big conference room / small church: Depends on distance from the screen to projector, and generally 4000~5000Ansi Lumens or above
  • Auditorium: Under light, at least 6500Ansi Lumens above is suitable
  • Outdoor special event: (Not under direct Sun light) Over 10,000Ansi Lumens is suitable

  ※ Subjective for different usage according to site environment, such as distance from screen, lighting, screen size, screen gain rate (reflection rate), number of people, size of room, and so on. (Of course, people's eye sight is crucial)


2. Resolution (Unit: Pixels)

- Emphasis of "Resolution" in choosing the projector.


We normally describe resolution as "width × height" with the units in "pixels". For example of XGA resolution, "1024x768" means the width has 1024 pixels and the height has 768 pixels. 

Another example of SVGA resolution, "800x600" means the width has 800 pixels and the height has 600 pixels.

So, let's suppose that there is a screen 6x6ft size. When you project the image with XGA resolution projector and compare with SVGA resolution projector, what is the difference?

You will see more obvious pixel with SVGA resolution image and the pixel size will be bigger than XGA resolution image.

In other words, higher resolution projectors generate image much sharper, clearer, and smoother than lower resolution projectors.


Common Resolution examples,

Lower < VGA (640x480) < SVGA (800 x 600) < XGA (1024 x 768) < WXGA (HD / High Definition, 1280 x 800) < Full HD / 1080p (1920x1080) < WUXGA (1920 x 1200) < 4K / UHD (Ultra HD) (3840x2160) < 8KHigher


3. Contrast


Simply, a rate from very black to very white how many color partition can be divided. Don't understand?

Ok, then.. For example, 1,000:1 means that from black to white color display portion is 1000. For 100,000:1, the color display portion is 100,000. When we compare this two contrast 1,000:1 and 100,000:1, we can see 1,000:1 is quite blur or looks like foggy. Something like vision through dusty glasses. Let say.. With 1,000:1 contrast, orange color is not very natural orange color. It looks more likely yellow or red. With 100,000:1 contrast, orange color is close to natural orange color better than 1,000:1.

So, higher number is better.



4. Projector Type by Throw Distance

Depends on 'Throw distance', you should choose correct projector model.
